Bio
Originally from Rhode Island, Coach Willem played at Barrington High School, where he was a varsity captain his senior year. He continued his volleyball career at James Madison University, playing all four years. He served on the executive board and was part of multiple NCVF top 15 teams as a starter. Throughout his time at JMU, Willem also refereed at the NCAA Division I, Division III, and high school levels.
Willem moved to Northern Virginia last fall to teach social studies at Annandale High School. As the head coach of the varsity boys volleyball team at AHS, he led the Atoms to a runner-up finish in the National District. Willem also served as the assistant coach of the 18 White team here at St. James last year.
Willem is focused on creating a culture of responsibility and accountability to create purpose-driven athletes, encourage resilience, and foster growth on and off the court.
