Bio

Bart McPheeters is originally from Binghamton, NY but moved to Virginia in 1985 after graduating from college.  He has been playing volleyball for over 30 years, starting with intramural teams in college and moving to county rec league teams and eventually USAV.  After discovering doubles, he played grass and sand doubles as much as possible for many years, finally slowing down when his kids got busy with their own sports.  He started coaching as an assistant coach for high school boys teams and rec leagues.  He has been coaching club volleyball for the past seven years, starting as an 18U boys’ club coach, followed by 16U and 14U boys.  For the past four seasons, he has coached girls’ 13U through 16U teams.  His club teams have collected numerous medals over the years at various AAU and USAV tournaments.

For several years he played on USAV adult club teams and was a certified scorekeeper.  His adult teams played levels B and BB capped by a season of A level ball.  His team qualified for USAV Nationals twice, but only attended once.  He has played in indoor sixes leagues for over 30 years, both men’s and coed.  Many seasons the teams won first or second place in their league.

He also enjoys cycling, hiking, skiing and sailing, and generally staying active when possible.  He works full time as an engineer and is married to Rita McPheeters who will be coaching the 15U Navy team.  They have two children who also played club volleyball throughout high school.  His daughter went on to play volleyball in college.

He is CAP 1, IMPACT and SafeSport certified.  He also recently attended an in-person Art of Coaching clinic at UNC where he learned many new coaching tips.  This will be his 11th year of coaching but his 1st season coaching at the St. James.  He is very excited to join the St. James this season and having the opportunity to share his passion and knowledge of the game.
