Bio

Growing up in New York City, Charles was a multi-sport athlete specializing in basketball and tennis.  Volleyball was a late addition when he joined a men’s USAV men’s team as a setter.  At that time, he also took a keen interest in officiating for the team, where he got his start in becoming a current NCAA Division I and USAV National referee.  He also served seven years as the Director of USA Volleyball’s National Referee Rating Program.

Charles has been coaching girl’s high varsity and club volleyball since the early 2000’s.  His high school teams have won numerous District/Conference Championships, four Regional Championships, and the Virginia Class 6A State Championship in 2018.  While serving as Director for the Northern Virginia Volleyball Club (NOVA), he has coached levels from U15 through U18.  Charles is the current Director of the CHRVA High Performance (HP) program where he has taken several teams to compete in the National HP Championships.  Currently he directs the summer HP camps sponsored by the CHRVA region.  He also served as a volunteer assistant volleyball coach for two years at George Washington University.
