Bio
Thai Nguyen brings extensive experience, talent, and knowledge to St. James through his years of coaching and playing. He has been a resident of the Northern Virginia area for 30 years and has played competitive volleyball for more than 25 years in USAV, grass, beach, and indoor tournaments. Thai’s passion for volleyball has driven him to coach various teams over the years. His coaching style emphasizes doing things correctly.
In 2019, Thai Nguyen’s leadership led the 12U team to their first Junior Nationals appearance in Indianapolis, Indiana, where they finished in the top 9% nationally and 2nd in the CHRVA region. The following year, his 12U team qualified for Nationals (National Division) before the season concluded. In 2021, they finished 29th, placing in the top 8% in the nation at Nationals. In 2022, he took on a new challenge, coaching boys, and his Boys 15 team finished 19th in the open division, further adding to his impressive coaching achievements.
Additionally, he is currently the head coach for Flint Hill High School’s Varsity girls’ team, where they won back-to-back state championships in 2022 and 2023. He was voted Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and Coach of the Year for VISAA Division 1 in 2023. He is also CAP I certified.
